Wednesday, March 17, 2004
ok, so i'm an audio producer/geek and feel so lucky to have found this site just in time for the piece i'm producing about Japanese American draft resisters from the WWII internment camps. with these bomb sounds as well as and the CBS announcement of the bombing, I've got my intro set!

internet radio survivors

so out of all the music websites, live365 made it. and thank god for today it helped make my day.
finally, KXLU, my favorite station in the whole world, is streaming online!
when i started to develop my indie rock knowledge and lived in l.a., this station was pivitol. i'd sit in front of the radio for hours, taking notes on songs and descriptions, putting happy faces for the songs i liked. then when the dj would finally back announce, i'd match the band/song title with the music i heard. oila! a shopping list!
now it's time to make my virtual donation!

God damn, it took me long to post!
I really haven't been keeping my Nonogirl Playlist on nonogirl.com updated, but if I were ever gonna do reviews, it should be for this past week. I returned from Hawaii to a slew of amazing nights out:
* Oops Tour at Gilman: spastic hardcore. kids starting a pillow fight with the infested gilman couch coushins. a dude dropping from the rafters into the crowd. unreal!
* Friends Forever at Kimo's: I wasn't going to go, but found out that they play out of a van! fireworks off the keyboardist's helmet and backpack. drummer and bassist in the van. dry ice, lasers, flashing lights from the van. a fan blown tarp balloon crashing into the gathered crowd.
the end of Soulness: after refusing to wait in line to get into a Friday night at the Zeitgeist, i was able to boogie down to that gritty r'n'b that only english steve can pump out. i hope they find another venue to drop their vinyl on!
Ultimate Sunshine Tour: with Modest Mouse (missed them, damn!), De La Soul (they just couldn't pull it off with the mostly white rock crowd), and Flaming Lips (AMAZING live show). Big ups to Murder Dub for sharing free last minute tickets with me.
And now, I try to catch up on sleep.
music is the food of love

with a discarded to-do list, i went record shopping this weekend off a list of classics someone made me. got some willie nelson, waylon jennings, sly, and parsons. i'm trying, but i don't think the country bug is biting me.
got a song dedicated to me at a show on friday! it was by one of the bands i use in my video (mp3). he dedicated the song i used in the piece and put me+1 (that's pretty considerate) on the guest list. nervous (about what, i don't know) and humble about their music, we talked about wedding music, tattoos, and music with samples. we're trading their new album for the new FMTM that I suggested.
saw straight outta hunters point loaded with local hip hop tunes. wanted to ask how the filmmaker was inspired to make a film (lots of kids are doing it now after him he says). and what resources he used. did he buy a video camera instead of gold teeth?
it's not really a film with a solution or a moral, but rather self determination in action. that's the power of the film. i wanted to know if this kid just said, "fuck it. i got me a video camera and i'm gonna show you my life and what we go through from MY vision, not the depiction by news
reporters." is it a COUNTER version? not necessarily. life is not just a duality. but it's finaally a ME holding the camera, and check it: IT'S SELLING OUT THE THEATER!

I think I figured out the bass line to song #3 on their CDR! It came in a hand sewn, felt CD case. Music, so understated, it draws you in.
Birthday Machine and
Townes Van Zandt are rounding out my Rainy Music mixed tape for the drive down to L.A.
