DJ Tender Love
Wednesday, April 3, 2002
With a car stereo and time to myself, I'm finding my way, slowly, back to music!
Someone asked me to dj a punk night at Amnesia and someone else is considering starting a radio station in the Tenderloin!
So last night, in preparation for the Chicago trip and to bear birthday and cheer me up gifts, I made CDs and mix tapes. Pedro the Lion and The New Year live, and an eclectic mix from Operation Ivy to Sweet Honey in the Rock to Cap'n Jazz to Mos Def.
Too bad the downstairs neighbors couldn't appreciate the healing music from DJ Tender Love. The volume was low, but still, they pounded on their ceiling in morse code to indicate that I'm bothering them.
Move to the SUBURBS!
where's the party?!
Tuesday, April 2, 2002
during lunch, i skipped away from my beauracratic hell (remind yourself daily, "it's just a day job,"), les savy fav in my head. WHO LIKES TO PARTY?!
with a Chicago trip just days away, it's about all i can think about. i'm doing research even though everyone is telling me "the boys" will take care of me. i'm taking it in my own hands, cuz shit, they only launched their site this week and opening night is FRIDAY!
besides, i'm learning a lot. it's pitiful to admit that my chicago knowledge is based on independent music venue benefits, bands, and record labels.
fabulous architecture? punk rock bowling? and good sushi and korean food (testified by a hired personal chef)! who knew?
timing didn't work out to catch a certain rock star in the area, but there's new weather, a new slice of america, and the same old music and movies, but in a new arena to experience.
WINDY CITY, HERE I COME!
Friday 5
Friday, March 29, 2002
1. Finally nearing Foreign Cinema for Deagan and Rob's screening of Rocker, followed by their dope dub djing.
2. The New Year and Pedro the Lion (solo) with their beautiful songs.
3. An amazing virgin screening experience of Hedwig and the Angry Inch
4. Getting my domain back (and almost live)
5. Ross Hogg and his many gigs including Rockberry Jam at Border Cantina tonight.
The New Year
Friday, March 29, 2002
Tonight, I came home and replayed the amazing pedro the lion (solo) and new year/bedhead show. I put on Jim Yoshii Pile-Up on random and then put on my headphones for maximum listening pleasure. Beautiful. Then I thought of eE and From Monument to Masses and their trips to Los Angeles. You know, sometimes I get tired of seeing white guys on stage.
Tomorrow, I'm all about the Radical Performance Fest 2002 and Uchechi Kalu, then Ross Hogg's Rockberry Jam at Border Cantina where there's no stage, but a dance floor and the band doesn't make the party, the people do.
Online grad school?
Thursday, March 28, 2002
I've been more seriously considering studying this media/democracy stuff as a career. Reading all my favorite books, talking about interesting topics with smart people. But, I'm not ready to leave San Francisco, and definitely not ready to move to San Diego (my dream program is at UCSD).
So Dhiraj's lead to this school came at an interesting time...
